Description

We are three liked-minded artists and friends who enjoy painting together. We join up every year for the Helfa Gelf Open Studio event. This year we are delighted to be in the new Welsh Highland Railway Station in Caernarfon whilst our beloved Gweithdy (in the Ffestiniog Railway Station Car Park, Minffordd) is being totally refurbished!

Valerie Lewin. A happy fusion of pattern, clear bright acrylic colour and natural themes inspired by North West Wales, painted on panel.

Sarah Hartill BA Hons. Figurative still life paintings, often including domestic objects with an air of nostalgia. Portraits inspired by art of the past.

Rebecca Kitchin BA Hons. First class, unique and award winning illustrator, specialising in watercolour and mixed media paintings of equines, animals and steam trains.

Valerie Lewin.

If there was any justice in the world I could ignore cooking and cleaning and paint all of the time! I notice colour and pattern everywhere, I love it! I'm drawn to folk art images and themes from around the world and knit them in with some North Wales magic. Anything from a story, scrap of fabric or dream can have me deep in my own painted world, lost for hours...Yeah!A happy fusion of pattern, clear bright acrylic colour and natural themes inspired by North West Wales, painted mostly on panel.

Sarah Hartill BA Hons (Visual Art).

After graduating from Aberystwyth University in 1985 with a degree in Visual Art specialising in printmaking and graphics, I followed a career in graphic design in the Midlands before returning to Wales in 2003 with my young family. I began painting again in 2014, experimenting with looser techniques and abstraction before returning to figurative painting, mostly still life subjects and portraits. I am fascinated by the work of 17th Century Dutch painters where objects have symbolic meaning, as well as the work of Peter Blake, with his images incorporating popular culture and collections of kitch objects. I have recently painted many ordinary objects from my childhood in the 1960's. I currently paint mostly in acrylics.

Rebecca Kitchin BA Hons.

'Rebecca Kitchin BA is a mixed media artist and illustrator. Mostly producing portraits of people and animals, she also paints steam engines in a unique and expressive style. Commissions accepted and artwork for sale.'
