Helen Melvin is a textile artist who, for the last twenty years, has explored ways of painting with naturally dyed fibres and fabric creating fine felt with complex colours and textured surfaces. Like a medieval artists she makes her own colours using plants grown in her own dye garden and her own range of Artisan inks.
Each picture takes a long time to produce as first all the fibres ad fabric have to be dyed and then turned into layers of textured complex felt with machine and hand stitch. Consequently they are currently only exhibited in her own summer house gallery at Helfa Gelf alongside the innovative and unique Natural Dye inks, dyed fibres and innovative Dye Kits. Helen has also written and self published four books on natural dyeing.
Her gallery of work can be seen at http://www.fieryfelts.co.uk or learn about her dyeing experiences by following her increasingly popular facebook page https//m.facebook.com/fieryfelts/
