Clarrie Flavell
Exploring the role of the crown as a symbol of a wearer’s identity, I have worked at the juncture between what is ‘wearable’ and ‘non-wearable’ jewellery.  Studying for my recent MA changed that.

Now, my work will be split into two camps: separate and distinct, the jewellery becomes more recognisably functional, whilst the sculpting grows ever more abstract.

The jewellery is based upon imaginative designs taking shipwrecks as their inspiration.
What would mermaids make of the objects that filter to the sea bed?

The work centring round identity continues to expand, taking in glass, stone, felt, and lead.

As a theatre lighting designer and photographer, my primary focus is the way in which we perceive light.
I love the subtle shimmering of an early, pearly dawn creeping over a coastline, and watching the world fill with light, as it snatches the landscape back from darkness.

I love the race across the countryside, map and compass in hand, working out my angles and scrambling over rocks in an frantic attempt to reach the best angle for the most dazzling razor-sparked sunset…..
just as the purple darkness reclaims the vision once more, and the scene is plunged into shadow.

Can I catch it?
Not just by speed at which I race my car, but with vintage stock film, with the digital image, with paper, with the trace the light stains upon any material  that I offer it.

This is what photography is…..the ghost of the light, the stains of darkness.

My main works are oil paintings that are inspired by the North Wales coastline, taking photographs, drawing and memories on my walks along the beach are interpreted in my artistic practise.
I have added mixed media work to my Helfa Gelf portfolio :- watercolours, encaustics and paper mache sculptures, a variety of work that has been part of my experimental work with a wide range of materials.

Since being given my first Kodak ‘Instamatic’, on my 6th Christmas, I have almost always carried a camera, wherever I go.

I love to capture moments in time, little slices of a life that I will probably never cross paths with again, wonderful places or iconic events My Photography tastes fluctuate, often on a weekly basis- I find that it pays to let your creative urges take you wherever you want to go.

My first love in Photography, will always be reportage and street work, especially if I can explore light and shadow and tell a story with a single image.

Ffion Davies Griffiths
Hello my name is Ffion Davies Griffiths and I am Clarrie Flavell's granddaughter.

One day I hope to follow her foot steps on having a workshop of my own and doing the Helfa gelf.

My work is based on different themes like sweetie rappers and under the sea. In the future I will be doing many other different themes. I love working in the workshop and I am willing to try new challenges and techniques.
