Julia: I am an amateur artist specialising in animals, using either pastels or watercolour. I undertake commissions for a wide range of pets. I also do landscapes in a variety of media.
Marlene: My work evolves through a series of experimental techniques. I am inspired by our beautiful Welsh countryside and other subjects include animals, flowers and old buildings. My styles of painting are realistic and semi abstract.

Born and raised in Yorkshire, I moved to North Wales, with my family, in the 1970s. I have always loved painting and drawing and, until I was 40, was self-taught. I then did an Hons degree in Fine Art, specialising in printmaking. I am inspired by our beautiful Welsh scenery and produce many paintings of mountains, waterfalls, lakes and woodlands, using a variety of experimental techniques which, I hope, keep my work fresh.
I use many media, including watercolour, acrylics, pastel, and mixed media. As well as landscapes, I also paint flowers, animals and still life. Although I still paint in a realistic manner, my recent experiments have also led me towards semi-abstract interpretations of the landscape.
I am 'artist in residence' at Pantymwyn Village Hall where I mentor members of the Pantymwyn Art Group on Tuesday mornings. A very popular, thriving group whose members are really keen to improve their skills and learn new ones; I find it a privilege to work with them. They are also strong supporters of Helfa Gelf, giving generously of their time (and cakes !) in the cafe during our Open Days.
I am a keen amateur artist, working in my studio most days and venturing into the countryside around Denbigh to paint and sketch during the summer months. Besides painting landscapes I like to indulge my passion for animals, painting a variety of pets from horses to canines. These are carried out in a mixture of pastel, pencil and watercolour.
I have been a member of the Clwydian Art Society for a number of years attending various workshops. I am currently the chairman of the society. I also enjoy life drawing and attend the Life group in Ruthin.
